Lou Dallas was founded in 2013 by artist Raffaella Hanley. Piecing together elements of high and low culture, Hanley creates a phantasmagorical aesthetic of her own, imbued with the baroque grandeur of the past and the youthful splendor of present day New York.
Her collection, handmade at her studio, is a collage of knitted elements married to a miscellany of patterned pieces. Hand embroidery; whip-stitcheded details; bows, ribbons, and sequins; intricate beading; and fraying seams evoke a sense of romance and shambolic glamour. The designs pay homage to the finery of gilded eras long past, finding a spiritual home in the palaces of Marie Antoinette and the ballrooms of 19th century Fifth Avenue.
Hanley, a native of New York City, graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2011 with a BFA in painting.
